I’m out of town this week so I don’t have time to write much – but I want to give you a chance to look at the schedule facing #P01135809 (AKA TFG)over the next year.
He’s a criminal, so it should not be surprising that he faces federal criminal charges in Florida and Washington, DC. He also faces state criminal charges in New York and Georgia (no trial date is set yet, but it will be shortly).
He is also a serial liar and con man, so neither should it surprise us that he is charged in various civil courts as well.
The dates of the upcoming campaign cycle are also included in this chart. #P01135809 skipped the first Presidential debate last week, so I can’t imagine he will plan to make any of the other scheduled debates. Beginning in January, the Republican Party will enter into several months of caucuses and primaries to select their nominee. #P01135809 is far and away the frontrunner for this nomination, but he plans to hold rallies and campaign appearances in many of the states before their nomination contests.
He was complaining last Monday morning, by the way, that his court schedule will keep him from playing in a golf tournament held on his own course in Scotland. What a baby.
In a court hearing in Washington, DC, on Monday of this week, his attorneys tried to claim that #P01135809’s professional obligations as a candidate for President would make it impossible to meet these court trial dates. The judge calmly explained to his attorneys that, just as she would not schedule the trial of a professional athlete around his game schedule, neither would she accommodate his campaign schedule when she set a date for trial. They screamed and yelled about this – probably because they knew they would be screamed and yelled at by their client.
The GOP is collectively screaming “election interference” as well. It is undeniable – this trial schedule will make it difficult for #P01135809 to campaign for the GOP nomination. They ask, on the one hand, to “let the American people decide” about #P01135809’s fate by allowing the election to provide a resolution to the problem. But on the other hand, they also ask that the trial take place in 2026 – long after the 2024 election. This doesn’t make sense – but that shouldn’t surprise us. And on the third hand (?) they need to recall 2020, when we “let the people decide” — and #P01135809 tried to burn everything down because he didn’t like what “the people” decided.
Perhaps the GOP should be looking to nominate a candidate who WON’T actually be under indictment in several jurisdictions – and possibly found guilty in more than one of these trials. They are hoist with their own petard, methinks.
We recognize this phrase but don’t always remember where we heard it. It’s from Hamlet – but the Wikipedia explanation goes deeply into the intricacies of the play and I don’t care enough to figure it all out. The phrase's broader meaning, says Wikipedia, is that a bomb-maker is blown ("hoist", the past tense of "hoise" [that’s a verb?]) off the ground by his own bomb ("petard"), and indicates an ironic reversal or poetic justice. Just a variant of F**k Around and Find Out, so far as I can tell.
Perfect.
