It's Not Just About the Beer
You probably thought that you would never be able to do yoga while a goat climbed on you. Well, you would be wrong.
Today’s Virginia Gazette explains that several local breweries are trying to broaden their appeal by offering other attractions in combination with their traditional brew-pub amenities. You know, beer and snacks.
According to this article, two local breweries – Alewerks and Frothy Moon – have begun to offer yoga classes on a regular schedule. Alewerks has gone further, offering “Zen Hooves” (goat yoga).
The article quotes one of the organizers as saying “I jumped at the opportunity to provide a service to ground yourself and then reward yourself with an ice-cold beer.” Sure.
Several “craft beverage facilities” have added running and cycling clubs to the mix. Silver Hand Meadery started a running club this summer. The club meets weekly and runs through the William and Mary campus before the runners enjoy a glass of mead together afterward. Billsburg Brewery sponsors a weekly running club and a weekly cycling club. But it also introduced a social stand-up paddle club earlier this summer. Participants gather on Wednesday nights for SUP or kayaking along the creek at the James City County Marina and then enjoy a beer at the end.
So check out the breweries near you. It’s not just about the beer anymore.
