Herb Jones For Virginia
This morning I want to tell you about Herb Jones, who is running in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District as the Democratic candidate opposing incumbent GOP Congressman Rob Wittman in the 2022 midterm election.
Redistricting in Virginia was confusing for a while, as delayed 2020 census data also delayed the Constitutionally mandated reconfiguration of election districts in the state. But the dust has settled, Virginia has new maps, and the stage is set for yet another round of elections in Virginia.
On April 7, the Williamsburg Indivisible Group (WIG) formally endorsed Herb Jones in this race. Here’s what we wrote about him at the time:
“The Williamsburg Indivisible Group (WIG) announces its decision to endorse Democratic Candidate Herb Jones in the race for the Congressional seat currently held by Congressman Rob Wittman in the 1st District of Virginia.
“We have worked for Herb’s election in his previous political races, and he has been a constant supporter of our efforts to bring about change in Williamsburg and in Virginia over the past several years,” says WIG co-chair Karen McPherson. “We support him without reservation.”
Why We Endorse Herb
“His campaign website tells us that “Herb believes Freedom, Democracy, Truth, & Justice are the fabric that holds this great nation together.” Herb brings with him a wealth of experience in the US Army, local government, community activism, and entrepreneurship that will allow him to defend these basic values in Congress.
“The recent redistricting will allow citizens in the 1st Congressional District to have a fair opportunity to elect a leader who will represent their interests.
The incumbent in this district voted WITH former President Trump 90% of the time;
He voted “NO” on both of the impeachment resolutions brought before the House of Representatives,
He voted to OBJECT to the Pennsylvania electors on January 6, 2020.
He voted AGAINST the formation of the January 6 Commission to investigate the insurrection on January 6.
He voted AGAINST the COVID Relief package and President Biden’s Infrastructure bills in the Fall of 2021.
And the list could go on
“The First District of Virginia needs a congressman who will work for us, not for his own political interests.”

Here’s what Herb’s campaign website says about him:
“Herb began his career in government service as a second lieutenant in the 24th Infantry Division, Fort Stewart, Georgia. Over the next 10 years, he was stationed at Fort Sam Houston, Texas; Fort Meade, Maryland; Bangkok, Thailand; and Fort Lee, Virginia.
Herb left active duty to start a career in finance and investments with Edward Jones, Signet Financial Services, Bank of America, and Colonial Downs.
Herb ran to be the County Treasurer for New Kent in 1999 and served three terms.
At the same time, he remained in the US Army Reserves. He was called up twice after 9/11 and served here in Virginia and two tours in Iraq. In 2011, Herb decided not to run for a fourth term and took a position with the federal government as an operations officer in Afghanistan 2012. He served in that capacity until November 2014. Herb retired in 2012 with the rank of full colonel.
As a result of Herb’s extensive military knowledge and experience, Virginia Governor Ralph Northam appointed Herb to his Military Advisory Council. In 2014, Herb and his brother, Michael, started Pyramid Technologies, LLC, a cloud-computing, project management, and logistics firm. He currently serves as the co-founder and CEO of Pyramid. Herb is a long-time member of Omega Psi Phi Fraternity, Incorporated.
He and his wife, Yvonne, reside in the Providence Forge area of New Kent County. Yvonne is a retired educator who served as the principal at New Kent High School for 14 years. They have two sons and one grandson.”
If you don’t live in Virginia’s 1st Congressional District, you can’t vote for Herb. But there’s probably a candidate in your area that you can support. You should find out who that person is and see what you can do to help. Democracy does not sustain itself.
